MATTHEW LORENZEN – Minister of Music
Matthew wa born and raised in Gibson City, IL by God-fearing, loving parents who proclaimed Gospel truth unto him since day one. He prayed to receive Jesus as his Savior one night at age 3 or 4.
He noticed an early connection to music, and during elementary school when his best friend started taking piano lessons, Matthew was hooked. “I want to take paino lessons!” some reported to have heard him say. God continued to give Matthew a passion for music. He began learning the trumpet in 5th grade. A few years later, some family friends were needing to store their drum set during a move. “Thankfully my Dad had become a fan of Petra, and so felt he could withstand listening to the beating and crashing on the drums now and then”, said Matthew.
During High School youth group, a praise band was formed with Matthew on drums. He also became interested in guitar. When his best friend’s brother was selling an electric, he jumped at the opportunity, and began teaching himself guitar. He found opportunities to worship the Lord while attending Pensacola Christian College spending his last two years as worship leader in his collegiate group.
Shortly after college, he began adding harmonica to the mix and served on the praise team at Gibson City Bible Chruch. Matthew then found an enjoyment in adding additional instruments into his repertoire such as banjo and resonator. Around the beginning of 2020, Matthew started praying in regards to further ministry in worship and how the Lord might lead.
In December of 2021, Upper Room Bible Church approached him to lead and; Matthew prayed, then took the leap of faith through the open door from the Lord! Matthew is excited to worship together, grow together and walk together in the grace of God both now and in the paths ahead, resting in God’s leading and guidance, not only as a church family, but also with his newfound bride, Chandra – a true blessing from the Lord indeed!
